Synopsis
Since the 1996 edition, images have been added and upgraded, occupying at least half the pages of this two-volume set. There are several new atlases and detailed discussions of normal anatomy, and an expanded pathology section providing statistics, new genetic concepts related to disease, epidemiological data, and more detailed description of pathologies. A chapter on the genetics of tumor development and metastasis has been added because the authors believe genetic-based imaging will become considerably more important. Other chapters cover ultrasound, PET, MR-spectroscopy, and Thallium-201 imaging. There are also new discussions of swallowing, the trachea, skin and soft tissue lesions, and neural tumor spread. The 80 some contributors are mostly connected with institutions around the US, while others hail from Canada, Sweden, Japan, The Netherlands, and Turkey.
