Abnormal Uterine Bleeding is a major gynaecological problem which affects the health
and quality of life of many women worldwide. Historically most women simply toler-
ated their bleeding problems untiltheybecame menopausal. I havewith the support of
colleagues assembled a short overview, whose contents carefully cover the subject of
Abnormal Uterine Bleeding and its conservative surgical management. The chapters
span from the epidemiology of this condition to current techniques for treatment
and to future research and new developments. I have attempted to logically divide
the book into chapters which complement each other. I have tried to chose a diverse
group of contributors, international experts whose knowledge of the subject would
provide us with a useful snapshot of where we currently stand in this rapidly changing
area. Unfortunately conservative surgery for this condition is not yet available to all
patients. The challenge we face as gynaecological surgeons is to seek to improve
the health and life style of women by the most conservative approach with the best
outcome. I hope you enjoy this short overview of a rapidly evolving area.
