Review
The Textbook of Surgery...gives a great overview of General Surgery. The chapters are clearly structured and the text is easy to read and to understand...There are a lot of intraoperative and radiological pictures, which are of a great help in the daily diagnostic and treatment of a patient...The Sabiston Textbook of Surgery is a great help and support for a surgeon and can be highly recommended.
"European Journal of Paediatric Surgery"
"A brief review such as this cannot do justice to a textbook that is sure to take its place among the finest ever published for general surgeons...marvel at the quality of the information presented by the authors, the outstanding editorship, the superb illustrations, and, by the way, the modest cost in a time of escalating and often unaffordable prices for medical students and residents."JAMA
A particular effort with presentation, with illustrations and figures in colour which are very readable and all accessible on CD-ROM.
The authors knew to reconcile tradition and modernism with this monumental work, which is addressed to surgeons, general practitioners and the student to the experienced surgeon.
"European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology, May 2005" --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Review
Doody's Rating: * * * * This textbook has matured significantly with the transition in editorial leadership which took place over the two previous editions. Retained chapters have been appropriately updated. New chapters reflect the current emphasis on surgical safety, new technologies, and unconventional civilian disasters.
Redundancy is limited to topics crossing chapters, such as shock.
Sabiston is a worthy tool for any student of surgery.
Weighted Numerical Score: 91

"The present text is the third edition for which the editorial board has been led by Courtney Townsend. It presents a full in-depth understanding of surgical disease. Not only is this edition the most extensive and inclusive of any of the previous editions, but it goes into areas into which few surgical textbook contributors have ventured. The book is laid out in color-coded sections that are easy to use. Even though the section titles are those commonly found in most other surgical textbooks, the material contained in each section's cahpters is far more detailed and advanced in concept than is currently available elsewhere." -- JAMA, 2008

REVIEWS OF THE PREVIOUS EDITION:
